Sample basic sender/receiver communication model
This model shows that communication is a process between two people, who are called the sender and the receiver. This model is more focused on making sure the message is sent than on making sure it is understood. In a basic communication model, the steps go like this:
Encode
The message is coded into symbols, such as text, sound, or some other medium for transmission (sending)
Transmit
The message is sent through a way of talking. This message might not get through because of physical problems like unfamiliar technology or a lack of infrastructure.
Noise and other things may be present and cause the information to be lost when the message is sent or received.
Decode
The person who gets the information changes it so that it can be used by that person.
Sample interactive communication model
In this model, the message needs to be made sure to be understood by the receiver.
In an interactive communication model, there are also the following steps:Acknowledge
When someone gets a message, they can let the sender know that they got it. This does not mean that they agree with or understand the message; it just means that they got it.
Feedback/response
When the message has been decoded and understood, the person receiving it puts his or her thoughts and ideas into a message and sends it back to the person who sent it.
As part of the process of communication, the sender is in charge of sending the message, making sure the information being sent is clear and complete and making sure the message is understood correctly.
The receiver is responsible for making sure it is received in full, understood correctly, and acknowledged or answered in the right way.
These components take place in an environment where there will likely be noise and other barriers to effective communication.
It is a description, usually with a schematic describing how the communication happens between the sender and the receiver.
