Scope Management Plan
A scope management plan is a document that explains how the scope of a project will be defined, developed, monitored, controlled, and validated. The scope management plan is an important part of the project management plan, which gives an overview of how the project is going to be run.
Usually, the following parts make up the scope management plan:
- Scope statement: This is a short summary of the project’s goals, deliverables, and limits often associated with In-Scope and Out-of-Scope items.
- The scope is a term for a list of the specific activities, tasks, and work products that are needed to reach the goals of the project.
- Work breakdown structure (WBS): This is a way to divide the project’s scope into smaller, easier-to-handle parts using a hierarchical system.
- Scope verification is the process of making sure that the deliverables of the project meet the requirements and that the project is on track to reach its goals.
- Scope change control: This describes how scope changes will be managed, including how they will be written down, evaluated, approved, and put into action.
