Scope Baseline
The Scope Baseline is a paper that describes the scope, objectives, and outcomes of the project. It is an accepted form of the project purpose statement, the work breakdown structure (WBS), and the WBS dictionary. It is made during the planning part of the project and is used as a base for handling and keeping track of the project scope throughout its lifecycle.
Usually, the following information is in the Scope Baseline:
Project Scope Statement: A document that explains the goals, needs, and results of the project.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a way to break down a project’s work into smaller, easier-to-handle parts and a way to organise and define the project’s overall purpose.
WBS Dictionary: A document that gives thorough information about each part of the WBS, such as its explanation, outputs, standards, and any other important information.
The Scope Baseline is an important record that makes sure the project’s scope is well-defined, easily understood, and handled well throughout the project’s lifecycle. It is used as a point of reference for scope proof, scope control, and managing scope changes.
By keeping the Scope Baseline the same throughout the project, project managers can make sure that the project work is done according to the agreed-upon scope, that changes to the project scope are properly managed and controlled, and that the project delivers the desired results within the defined scope, budget, and timeline.
