In project management, the Schedule Performance Index (SPI) is similar to a progress report card for your project’s timeframe. It’s similar to seeing if you’re running a race at your predicted speed. In layman’s words, the SPI measures how efficiently you use time in comparison to what you intended. If the SPI is 1, you’re on track; you’re moving at the expected rate. If it’s more than one, you’re already ahead of schedule, which is fantastic! If it’s fewer than one, you’re behind and may need to hurry up to catch up. It’s a useful tool for determining whether your project is on track or whether changes are required to finish on time.
